Reasons to visit Mongolia By: agirlabroada - 09 Nov 2006
Snot
People in China may spit, but people in Mongolia blow snot rockets like it’s their j-o-b.
Street Crossing
The streets are never paved and the cars never stop for pedestrians.
State Department Store
The State Department Store (the country’s biggest store, known in Mongolian as “ikh delguur” or “the great store”) plays “We Will Rock You” by Queen for no reason on random nights at 10 pm.
Phone Calls
There are (mostly) women sitting at every corner with clunky office phones from the 1980s that you can stand there and use somehow to make phone calls to anywhere in Mongolia.
Riding Around
Your jeep is guaranteed to break down, and, guaranteed, your driver will know how to fix it. Sawdust is an entirely approved of method for easing gear shifting.
The Weather
It will snow in September. And in May.
Language Skills
The Mongolian phrase for “what day is it today?” also means “what planet is this?

5 reasons wy you should definately go to Mongolia By: daydreamer_99 - 04 Feb 2006
If you love the surreal
there's nothing odder than driving for 4 hours to get to the middle of nowhere, then trekking through desolate forest and field for hours only to find yourself in the only yurt for 150 miles drinking horsemilk vodka + watching russian pop music on tv.
If you like the taste of mutton
mutton stew, mutton chops, mutton sauce, mutton stirfry, mutton roast, mutton kebabs, mutton rice and cucumber, mutton risotto, shredded mutton, mutton and noodles, mutton pie, mutton on a stick, bbq mutton, mutton soup, mutton bisque, mutton pizza.
if you like the boyband 'Blue'
strange as it may seem, the boys of Blue hold a sacred space in the heart of every Mongolian. Overplayed in every bar and club, now everytime i hear their dulcet tones singing 'drive by on the flyby' i'm overcome by the oddest kind of nostalgia.
if you like walking up hills
it gets addictive after a while. You just want to keep on walking and you suddenly realise that this is probably what motivated Ghengis Khan; vista after vista and endless possibility. and at each summit you say one more, then i'll turn back...
