Bayanzag (dinosaur quarry in the Gobi)

lots of dinosaur fossils were discovered in Mongolia, namely in the Gobi, including the first dinosaur eggs (which clarified the reproduction of dinosaurs, up until then disputed). in the 1920s, an expedition led by the american Roy Chapman Andrews allowed for the discovery of over one hundred dinosaur fossils (bones, eggs, jaws and skulls) in only two years.

unfortunately, however, most of these discoveries are no longer in the Gobi but in the capital's museum of natural history and mostly around the world (in particular in the american museum of natural history in new york).

Bayanzag, the "flaming cliffs", is the place where most of these fossils were found. it is said that you can still find fossils when wandering the cliffs, though most people go there simply for the nice walk and amazing colour of the cliffs and its surroundings. it's a classic desert area of rock, red sands, scrub, sund and awesome emptiness.
