the Millenium Road - a great example of what crazy things can be created under communist regimes... and how they usually forget to allocate sufficient financial resources to their over-the-top ideas...
the communist government of mongolia came up with this project, intended to link the chinese eastern border with the western one by constructing a road of almost 5,000 km length. road works commenced in the year 2000. 5 years later, only about 60 km were already finished. reportedly the construction work is interrupted very often due to lack of money.
the mongolians have taken the habit of laughing about this project, explaining the name "Millenium Road" was given to this road because it will take at least 1,000 years to construct it...
